Our Chosen Artist - Olly Murs
Our chosen artist is Olly Murs, an English pop singer that started his musical career thanks to the reality TV show The X Factor. The reason for why we chose him was because of his history of lovable tunes that emphasise how fun pop music can be. We also like how in many of his own music videos, he is having a goo time and enthralling audiences with a catchy narrative that is easy to understand, and we like the idea of creating another narrative because we enjoyed the making of our preliminary task. We liked how we did not have to focus on a serious narrative and more than likely continue to run with the non-serious narrative with our future music video. Though Olly Murs is an already signed artist to Epic Records, we chose to focus on his song 'Did you miss me?' because, yet again, we enjoyed how well we put our own spin on an already signed artist (Carly Rae Jepsen) in our preliminary. Our preliminary tasks son did already have a music video for the song which encouraged us to put our own spin on a new narrative for it which differed from the original drastically, but the song that we chose (Did you miss me?) has no current music video, enabling us to put a whole new spin on the song, thus creating the music video from scratch without any help from current products.
Below is the email that we sent to Olly Murs' record label; Epic Records. It is on behalf of all of my group and simply states how the music video will not be used for any profit making purposes and that we do not wish to copyright the song without their permission.
